SOCIO-ECONOMIC PROFILE

The people of the Karaburun Peninsula are living in little villages and are generally earning their livelihood from small scale agricultural activities and from goat or sheep breeding. Although their income is very low, they have been able to maintain their traditions and simple way of living.

The region of Karaburun is renowned for its narcissus and hyacinth flowers with their unequalled scent, its artichokes, mandarins and “hurma” olives. All these products are grown and harvested in a natural way and represent an important basis for the development of the organic product image which the local authorities and some private investors are on the verge of obtaining for the Karaburun Peninsula .
