CULTURAL PROGRAMMES

In addition to hiking and other nature sports programmes, Stylarius will organise a number of cultural programmes designed to focus on the history, culture and traditions of the Karaburun Peninsula and its surrounding area.

These cultural programmes will give the visitors the opportunity to discover the rich cultural features of the Karaburun Peninsula. Workshops will be organised to teach the techniques of old and vanishing regional traditional handicrafts like basket making, pottery and ceramics, where the participants will be able to test their skills and get to understand the close relation between nature and the objects made from it.

Photo Safari

Photo safaris will be organised on foot, horseback or mountain-bike. Each one will be dedicated to a special theme of the Karaburun Peninsula. Through these photo safaris, the participants will have the opportunity to approach nature, or the people, from a different angle and give expression to their own creative capabilities.

Olive Festival

One of the most important activities of the “Stylarius” project will undoubtedly be the Olive Festival. During this festival, all participating guests will harvest olives from the very old olive trees (some are more than 1000 years old!), extract olive oil in a traditional olive oil mill, make olive oil soap, and learn various recipes with olives and olive oil. There will be woodcarving from olive tree wood, and a drawing and photography competition for the most original olive tree trunk. Poems and literature will also be part of this festival. In other words, the project will transform a major aspect, which has been characteristic for thousands of years on the Karaburun Peninsula, into a real festival and occasion. This activity will also show how, since the time of the Ionians, olive oil was extracted by man and horse-power in the traditional olive oil mills - a pleasurable experience in an era, where everything is done by machine power! With this festival “Stylarius” wants to be an example for similar projects.

Workshops

As already mentioned briefly, “Stylarius” will have a workshop where handicraft and arts activities such as photography, plastic arts, basket making, pottery and ceramics will be arranged and enjoyed. Through these activities, local culture and traditions will be enhanced while the guests will have fun learning new and ancient techniques and handicrafts.
